Our Guiding Principles

Family is an integral part of each person’s life and must be welcomed as an integral part of the service system.
Individuals deserve a home that serves them through their lifespan, accepting times of greater need as a natural course of life.
Relationships are key to quality of life.

The principles of gentle teaching and servant leadership guide our service approach.
Public and private partnerships are critical to supplement funding of services that preserve good life quality.
Good stewardship requires us to demonstrate valued outcomes for those we serve as well as efficiency in operations.
Services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities exist to support community. When a community experiences enhanced quality of life, success is achieved. This success can be reached by embracing the gifts that are offered by community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
A continuum of service options can meet the needs and preferences of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families provided that all parts of the continuum respect individual dignity and strive to offer a high degree of life quality.

Our History:

Nine organizations came together to form VFA. Each organization was looking for something more than existing provider organizations offered. Each wanted:

Opportunities to share and shape our organizations agenda.
To draw attention to highly specialized needs of individuals with medical or behavioral issues.
Support for committing to individuals throughout their lives no matter what challenges they present.
To find like minded organizations with a foundation built on values and commitment.
